Foreign workers who work in Korea on E-9 visas are respectable in terms of supporting the Korean economy by working in fields that Koreans hate.

Many E-9 workers want to work in Korea for as long as possible, and the employers who hire them also want hard-working E-9 workers to work in Korea longer.

There are two types of employment extension systems for them: re-employment and re-entry employment permit.


<Re-employment - 1 year and 10 months>

 ○Eligibility: Employers apply when the three-year employment period of foreign workers has expired

 ○Period: 1 year and 10 months employment extension only once a year

- Persons whose employment contract period has 1 month or longer until the expiry of the employment period

○Private insurance for re-employment

  -Departure Matured Insurance and Return Expense Insurance extend the current insurance period, while Workers Compensation and Guarantee Insurance are newly joined during the extension period.


<Re-entry Employment Permit System - 4 years and 10 months>


  ○Requirements

   ① Requirements for foreign workers

   - Foreign workers who have worked in the same industry for 4 years and 10 months

   - It is possible to change the workplace for reasons not attributable to the foreign worker, but the employment contract with the last employer must be at least one year.

   -The total period of station in Korea must be less than 5 years on E-9 or E-10 visa 

   ② Requirements of the workplace

   -Agricultural industry, fishery, or manufacturing and service industries with less than 100 domestic insured workers

- A workplace that has the number of allowed employment foreign workers and employment conditions

- should be into a labor contract for at least one year, effective from the starting date of re-entry of work


○Steps

  ① The foreign worker must first report the expected departure, and the employer must apply for re-entry employment permission for the re-employee to the subject job center at least 7 days before the expiration of re-employment.

  ② Foreign workers must leave the country within 1 month after the applying from the employer

③ Foreign workers should report their return to their home country’s outgoing dispatch center within 7 days of departure (bring passport, visa issuance fee, and airfare)

   ④Foreign workers must re-enter the country one month after leaving the country and work

○ Documents to be submitted

   ① Application for re-entry employment permit for those who have expired for employment ② Standard employment contract ③ Copy of alien registration card and passport ④ Report of expected departure


○Notes

   ① Foreign workers should complete their retirement procedures before leaving the country, receive various money and valuables such as wages and retirement pay, and receive exclusive insurance such as return expense insurance and departure matured insurance.

   ② If a foreign worker changes his/her workplace after the employer has been issued an employment permit, the employment permit will be revoked and the foreign worker will not be able to re-enter the country.
