Largest seafood discount ahead of Chuseok... Up to 60% discount

The Korean government (Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries) is supplying government-stocked seafood to the market for the Chuseok holiday (September 14-18) and selling them at up to 45% discount.

At this ‘Korea Fisheries Festival - Chuseok Special Exhibition’, 13 types of seafood are sold at a discount of up to 60%, and traditional markets are holding an Onnuri gift certificate refund event of up to 20,000 won.

This event is being held on the largest scale ever to promote consumption of domestic seafood and lower prices ahead of Chuseok. Foreign residents can also purchase discounted seafood at markets or supermarkets.

Discount sale of seafood

As the first seafood discount event, the government is selling government-stocked seafood at up to 45% discount.

For Chuseok this year, the supply of government-stocked seafood will be expanded from last year to stabilize consumer prices. Additionally, government-stocked seafood supplied to the market can be purchased at a discount of up to 45% compared to the market price at traditional markets and marts nationwide.

The government is also holding the largest-ever ‘Korea Fisheries Festival – Chuseok Special Exhibition’ as its second discount event. This event will be held at 42 supermarkets and online malls nationwide.

There are up to 13 types of fish, including pollack, mackerel, cutlassfish, squid, sea bream, dried anchovies, and abalone can be purchased at a discount of up to 60%.

There is no separate way to purchase it. It is already sold at a discounted price at the market or supermarket, so you can just go and buy it. Detailed event information can be found on the Korea Fisheries Fair official website (www.fsale.kr).

Onnuri gift certificate refund

The government is also holding a traditional market Onnuri gift certificate refund event starting September 9 in 114 markets across the country, where up to 30% of the purchase of domestic seafood at traditional markets is refunded with Onnuri gift certificates, up to 20,000 won per person.

Additionally, starting September 5th, we will issue mobile gift certificates exclusively for seafood with a 20% discount every Thursday (10 AM, 4 PM). In particular, during this Chuseok period, the size of issuance was increased five times compared to usual to improve people's livelihood and economic vitality.

Consumers who want to make a purchase can install the ‘Beple Pay app’ and sign up as a member.

Minister of Oceans and Fisheries Kang Do-hyeong said, “We have decided to promote the largest discount event ever to ease the burden on consumers during Chuseok, when seafood consumption begins in earnest.” and added, “I hope that you can purchase our seafood at a good price at nearby traditional markets or marts around the holidays and enjoy them with your family and use them as gifts.”
