Dozens of foreigners have been arrested by the police for holding drug parties in foreigner-only clubs and karaoke bars in Busan and Gyeongsangnam-do area.
The Busan Metropolitan Police Agency arrested a total of 74 people, including 35 foreigners, 2 club owners, and 37 illegal immigrants, who distributed or used drugs in entertainment establishments such as clubs and karaoke bars, and 5 major drug dealers were arrested.
This is the result of joint crackdowns by the collaboration of Busan Police Agency and the Busan Immigration Office twice in July and September.
Five foreigners who distributed and sold drugs purchased narcotics (ecstasy, ketamine, etc.) online from March to September, then used social media such as Facebook to recruit so-called drug party participants, they are accused for selling drugs along with alcohol to other foreigners.
For 62 illegal immigrants were arrested in this crackdown, and the Busan Immigration Office took over the recruits.
The Busan Immigration Office said that 61 out of 62 people were deported and the other one was ordered to leave. In addition, it said that all of these people have been permanently restricted from entering the country.
Most of them were identified as illegal immigrants who entered the country on a Vietnamese foreign worker or student visa and then disappeared, the police said.
The Busan Metropolitan Police Agency also charged of two additional owners as of providing a place and aiding the crime while knowing that the users were taking drugs.
The Busan Metropolitan Police Agency is analyzing the evidence obtained from the scene and is tracking additional foreigners who have previously used drugs in the same place.
In addition, it is planned to expand the investigation into merchant ships smugglers by tracing drug smuggling routes.
