In Korea, the high school credit system will be fully implemented this year. There is bound to be confusion ahead of the first implementation, but the Ministry of Education has started a service that provides career and academic counseling and learning guidance to new and current high school students. *What is the high school credit system?: The high school credit system is a system in which students select and complete the subjects they need according to their career path and aptitude, and graduate when they acquire at least 192 credits over three years. When the system is fully implemented starting in March, students will choose the subjects they will learn themselves, not the school. Since each student's schedule may be structured differently, it is very important for each student to select subjects according to their career path and aptitude.
*What is the ‘Together School’ consulting service?: The Ministry of Education opened a consulting service to support students’ career and academic design within the digital communication platform ‘Together School’ (www.togetherschool.go.kr) on February 23. Middle school 3rd year students and high school students can select the subjects they want here and create their own personalized curriculum. In particular, they can also receive comprehensive counseling on career and study methods. This is to reduce confusion caused by the implementation of the high school credit system.
*What are the benefits of using this service?: First, we provide 'online counseling' so that students can design their career and studies based on their interests and aptitudes. When a student writes and applies for counseling online, a support team consisting of current high school teachers is assigned to send customized counseling content related to career and studies to the student.
The second service is the 'e-planner' service, which allows students to create their own curriculum in advance based on the curriculum chart of the high school they are assigned to. This service will start on February 4th.
*How to use the consulting service?: Middle school graduates and high school students who wish to use this service must register as members of ‘Hamkke School’ and use it from the ‘Career and Academic Design Support Consulting Service’ menu. High school students can check their school’s curriculum schedule by logging in with ‘Education Digital One Pass’, and middle school graduates can use the high school curriculum schedule example to plan their career and studies. ‘Education Digital One Pass’ is an authentication service that allows you to use NICE Plus, public education sites, etc. with one ID.
*What else is there in ‘Together School’? : ‘Together School’ also has various materials necessary for career and academic planning, such as a guide to elective courses for students, teaching and learning materials for teachers, and counseling cases. Multicultural parents and students can easily download the information they need. The ‘Together School’ service will be a good opportunity for students and parents to experience the high school credit system that will be implemented this year in advance.
