MANILA,  Philippines - Domestic fuel prices are set for another increase next week amid mounting market uncertainties following the expiration of the interim US-Iran agreement without a broader peace deal.

The first four trading days of the Mean of Platts Singapore point to a possible price hike of P1.75 to P2.25 per liter for diesel and P1 to P1 to P1.50 per liter for gasoline on Aug. 25.

Visayas grid placed under red alert                  MANILA, Philippines - The Visayas grid was placed under red alert yesterday afternoon due to the unavailability of two major coal-fired plants, limited power imports and high consumer demand.

The alert status was raised from 5 to 8 p.m. as the peak demand of 2,475 megawatts exceeded the available capacity of 2,350 MW, according to the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines.

Up to P6.50/liter hike in oil prices looms next week                                                                            MANILA  - Fuel prices are expected to rise by as much as PHP6.50 per liter this week due to supply disruption concerns after the Strait of Hormuz is once again largely closed to vessel traffic.

Citing price developments as of Thursday, Jetti Petroleum president Leo Bellas said diesel prices are projected to jump by PHP6 to PHP6.50 per liter, and gasoline by PHP5.50 to PHP6 per liter.
