South Korea to ban free disposable plastic cups at cafes, restaurants                                   SEOUL - South Korea's government will move to end the free provision of disposable plastic cups at cafes and restaurants as part of its plastic reduction measures, Environment Minister Kim Sung-whan said during a briefing on Dec 17 to President Lee Jae Myung at  Government Complex Sejong.

People will be required to pay a separate fee for disposable plastic cups, which are currently provided free of charge.

Gov't pushes system to allow foreigners to use public transit with credit cards              The government has begun reviewing a system that would allow foreign tourists to use busses and subways in Korea with overseas-issued credit cards, officials said Sunday.

The land and transport recently launched a bid to commission a study on introducing an open-loop public transportation payment system, which was to begin this month and run through the end of next year, according to the officials.

No jeepney fare hike after big-time oil price rollback, LTFRB says                                              The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) on Friday announced there will be no fare hike for traditional and modern jeepneys after a big-time oil price rollback lowered diesel prices.

Transportation groups are seeking a P1 to P2 fare hike from the current P13 minimum fare for traditional jeepneys and the P15 minimum fare for modern jeepneys.

Left-wing groups led a separate protest in Manila's main park with a blunt demand for all implicated government officials to immediately resign and face prosecution.

Philippine infrastructure spending slumps in September                                                               PHILIPPINE INFRASTRUCTURE SPENDING fell for a third straight month in September, as public works projects continued to undergo tight scrutiny amid a corruption scandal, the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) said.

In its latest disbursement report on Sunday, the DBM said expenditures on infrastructure and other capital outlays declined by 42.6% to P78.7 billion in September from P137.1 billion in the same month last year.
