‘Neulbom School’, which will ease concerns about child care, will be introduced to elementary schools across the country

The Korean government has decided to introduce Neulbom School in all elementary schools across the country this year to alleviate the difficulties of care and the burden of private education expenses faced by families with elementary school children. What is Neulbom School?

*What is Neulbom School? : Neulbom School is a comprehensive education program centered around schools in addition to regular classes. When Neulbom School is introduced, ‘Elementary School After-School School’ and ‘Childcare’, which were previously operated separately, will be integrated and operated as one system.

*Why do you operate it? : Neulbom School is operated to ease the burden of childcare on dual-income families. When there was no Neulbom School, children who finished school had no choice but to go to the academy, but now they can remain in school and participate in the program.

Will children like Neulbom School?

*What are you doing at Neulbom School? : Starting this year, we will provide free customized programs for 2 hours every day to all first graders who wish to attend. Looking at the example programs presented by the Ministry of Education, it appears that various programs that can combine play and learning, such as ▲play music ▲play Hangul ▲broadcast dance ▲play physical education ▲creative science ▲reading discussion, will be implemented.

*When does it operate? : This year, Neulbom School will begin operation in more than 2,000 elementary schools in the first semester, and will be operated for first graders in all elementary schools across the country in the second semester.

Can students from immigrant backgrounds also participate?

*Who can participate? : In existing after-school schools or care classes, there were application priorities, lottery, and elimination, right? However, anyone who wishes can use Neulbom School. However, this year, first-grade elementary school students will participate, and next year, participation will be gradually expanded to include first- and second-grade elementary school students, and 1st-6th grade elementary school students in 2026.

*What do students with immigrant backgrounds do? : Anyone can participate in Neulbom School regardless of their background, including students with disabilities, students from immigrant backgrounds, and students from low-income families, and customized support for them is also strengthened.

In particular, we provide customized Korean language education to students with immigrant backgrounds and also support a college student mentoring program to support basic learning. In addition, we decided to introduce the ‘Neulbom Voucher’ by expanding and reorganizing the support target and use of the after-school free tuition voucher, which is currently supported mainly by low-income families.

The introduction of Neulbom School is to strengthen the government's responsibility for childcare to solve the problem of low birth rate.
