It has become more convenient for immigrants from ASEAN countries to enjoy leisure time in Korea.
The Korea Forest Service’s National Natural Recreation Forest Management Office announced that it will officially operate the <ASEAN Accompanying Reservation Discount System>, which provides discount benefits to ASEAN immigrants when using the ‘ASEAN National Natural Recreation Forest’, from December 1.
This program was created to promote the use of Korean natural recreation forests by ASEAN immigrants and to promote exchanges between domestic and foreign people. The ASEAN National Recreation Forest, located in Gisan-ri, Yangju-si, Gyeonggi-do, was established in 2015 to promote friendly cooperation and strengthen ties between ASEAN countries (Indonesia, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, Philippines, Malaysia, Brunei, Singapore) and Korea. It opened in October.
This recreational forest is famous for its ASEAN-style traditional houses and scenery, and with Majang Lake and Jangheung Recreation Area nearby, there are many things to see and do, making it a national natural recreation forest widely known to Koreans. However, the usage rate among ASEAN immigrants was low.
The <ASEAN People Accompanying Reservation Discount System> is a system that provides a 30% discount on weekdays and weekends to ASEAN nationals who have made reservations for lodging at the ASEAN National Recreational Forest and to Korean nationals who have made reservations together with ASEAN nationals. The lodging rate is 45,000 won per night on weekdays and 82,000 won on weekends, and you can get a 30% discount here.
The Korea Forest Service expects that the operation of this discount system will reward the contributions to Korean society of ASEAN immigrants living in Korea for various reasons such as marriage and employment, and promote exchanges with Koreans. Reservations for lodging at the ‘ASEAN National Natural Recreation Forest’ can be made on the ‘Forest Outing Natural Recreation Forest’ website (https://www.foresttrip.go.kr/main.do?hmpgId=FRIP).
However, since this website does not provide multilingual services, immigrants may have some difficulty making reservations.
