Issuance of a ‘K-Pass’ card that provides a 20% or more discount on public transportation

Starting April 24, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport will issue a ‘K-Pass’ card that provides a 20% discount on public transportation fees.

K-Pass is a transportation card that returns a portion of the amount used when using public transportation such as city buses, village buses, subways, metropolitan buses, and GTX (Global Rapid Transit) more than 15 times a month. It can be used starting May 1, and can be used not only in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do, but also nationwide.

K-Pass, what are the benefits?

K-Pass users can receive a refund of 20% of their public transportation costs (30% for young people, 53% for low-income people).

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport issues K-Pass through 10 credit card companies, including Kookmin, Nonghyup, BC, Samsung, Shinhan, Woori, Hana, and Hyundai. Users must apply for and receive a K-Pass card on the card company website, etc., and then register as a member through the K-Pass mobile application or website. Each participating card company plans to provide additional benefits depending on card usage performance.

What happens to users of economical transportation cards?

K-Pass is an improvement on the existing ‘economical transportation card’ that refunds a portion of the usage amount in proportion to the distance traveled. In order to receive a discount with an economical transportation card, you had to record your departure and arrival points individually, but with the K-Pass, this inconvenience disappears. Existing economical transportation card users do not need to obtain a separate K-Pass card. Instead, you must go through the membership conversion process from the economical transportation card application to K-Pass. Membership conversion can be done until June 30th through the Economic Transportation Card website even after May.

What if it's your first time using it?

New subscribers must register as a new member on the K-Pass app or website, which will be released on May 1, to receive the benefits.

If you do not go through the membership conversion process or new membership registration process, the K-Pass benefits will not be applied immediately even if you receive a card. K-Pass benefits apply from the day you sign up as a new member or change membership.
