There is now an easy way for foreign residents in Korea to understand food safety in Korea.
On December 12, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety launched a multilingual guide 'With Food Safety Korea' that can be easily used on the Food Safety Country website (www.foodsafetykorea.go.kr) to help foreigners understand food safety information in Korea. was published as an e-book.
This e-book was produced in Chinese, Vietnamese, English, Japanese, and Cambodian to provide foreigners living in Korea with information necessary for everyday life, such as preventing food poisoning, checking recalled and discontinued foods, and preventing food allergies.
The e-book consists of browsing the Food Safety Nara website, learning about seasonal food safety information, and using Food Safety Nara. For users who have difficulty reading text, e-books in Chinese, English, and Japanese are also provided.
Even if you read this e-book, it is difficult to properly utilize the Food Safety Nara website, which is only available in Korean. However, it is considered useful in terms of providing foreign residents with minimal information about food safety in Korea. Of course, foreigners who are familiar with Korean can get more food safety information through the Food Safety Nara website.
The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety plans to print e-books as booklets and distribute them to multicultural family support centers for domestic multicultural families who are not accustomed to using the Internet, and also plans to produce Braille books for the visually impaired in 2024.
In addition, we plan to continuously expand the ‘Food Safety Nation reading service’ by utilizing digital technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) to improve accessibility to Food Safety Nation and improve the level of digital information for information-vulnerable groups.
The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety plans to continue to improve Food Safety Nation so that anyone can easily utilize food safety information. However, efforts are needed to provide the Food Safety Nation website in multiple languages so that foreign residents can more actively access food safety information.
