Minister of Justice Park Seong-jae visited the Incheon International Airport Immigration Office on September 4 and promoted various immigration screening systems with the ‘Social Integration Immigrant Mentor Group’.

There are two immigration screening systems currently being implemented by the Ministry of Justice to improve the convenience of foreign passengers.

First, ‘foreigners aged 17 or older who have registered as aliens or reported their residence’ can use the automatic immigration screening booth when entering and leaving the country without prior registration. Children aged 7 to 17 must pre-register.

‘Foreign tourists aged 17 or older who provided their fingerprints and facial information upon entry’ can also use the automatic immigration checkpoint upon departure.

You know the benefits of using automatic immigration screening, right? You can leave and enter the country with just your passport, fingerprint, and facial recognition without having to meet an immigration officer at a Korean airport. This is a really good system.

Pre-registration can be done at 18 automatic immigration registration centers nationwide, including Incheon Airport Passenger Terminals 1 and 2.

Second, ‘marriage immigrants, overseas Koreans, and permanent resident status holders’ can use the national immigration checkpoint in addition to the foreigner immigration checkpoint.

In the past, when marriage immigrants entered the country with their Korean children, there was the inconvenience of having to use the foreigner immigration checkpoint while the marriage immigrants had to use the national immigration checkpoint. Accordingly, the system was improved so that marriage immigrants can also use the national immigration checkpoint.

Mr. A, a married immigrant who is a member of the mentor group, said, “Because I was a foreigner, I had to wait for a long time at the immigration checkpoint for foreigners away from my Korean husband when entering the country, but through this promotional event, I learned that I could also use the national immigration checkpoint.”

Meanwhile, ‘citizens 17 years of age or older who have been issued a resident registration card’ can conveniently enter and exit the country by using the automatic immigration checkpoint without prior registration (pre-registration is required for those aged 7 to 17).
