Jeollabuk-do plans to continuously communicate and discover related projects with harmonizing and settling with local residents so that foreigners who have been granted regional-specific visas will be obliged to work and reside in the region for a certain period of time.
Jeollabuk-do is planning to create a ‘region-specific visa Jeonbuk-type model’, naming it ‘Making foreign residents Jeonbuk people project’.
Governor Kim Gwan-young said, “Foreigners who have received a regional-specific visa have the advantage of allowing them to work and live in areas with a declining population for 5 years. After the mandatory period has passed, we will come up with various measures so that they can continue to settle in Jeonbuk and live as a member of the local community, and we will continue to push ahead with policies regarding the right to recommend an immigrant visa issuance within 10% of the provincial population.”
Does the head of the local government recommend an immigrant visa?
Jeollabuk-do Governor Kim Kwan-young directly suggested giving the authority to recommend immigrant visas within 10% of the population to the head of the organization in a meeting with President Yoon Seok-yeol on July 8 to alleviate the decline in the local population.
If this policy is realized, the Governor of Jeollabuk-do will have the right to recommend visas for about 182,000 foreigners, 10% of the population, so that foreign residents can settle and work in the area stably.
While the feasibility cannot be predicted, the proposal is significant as it empowers local governments for foreign immigrant visas.
