Hi All! SKT is telling me they suddenly changed their policy Sept. 25th which prohibits them from giving contracts that extend beyond the foreigner's current visa expiration (e.g., no more 2 or 3 year contracts for E2s). Anyone else experiencing this? Does KT or LG U+ have this policy? TIA.

SKT는 외국인주민의 스마트폰 단말기 할부 정책을 9월 29일자로 변경했다고 밝혔습니다. SKT에 따르면 앞으로 외국인은 체류자격(Visa) 및 잔여 체류기간에 따라 스마트폰 단말기를 할부로 구매하는데 제약이 있습니다.

예를 들어 D-2, E-9 등의 비자를 가진 외국인주민은 최대 24개월까지만 단말기 할부가 가능합니다. 그 외 체류자격은 최대 36개월까지 할부가 가능합니다.

하지만 여기에 남은 체류기간도 확인해서 할부 개월 수를 조정합니다.

외국인의 할부가입 제한 기준은 다음과 같습니다.

현재 한국의 다른 통신회사에는 이런 제한이 없습니다. 

SKT announced that it has changed the smartphone device installment policy for foreign residents to September 29. According to SKT, there are restrictions on foreigners from purchasing smartphone devices in installments depending on their status of stay (Visa) and remaining period of stay.

For example, foreign residents with visas such as D-2 and E-9 can install devices for up to 24 months. For other status of residence, installments are available for up to 36 months.

However, the number of installment months is adjusted by checking the remaining period of stay.

The restrictions on installment subscription for foreigners are as follows.

More than 764 days 24 months

More than 1136 days 36 months

Currently, other telecommunication companies in Korea do not have this restriction.
