Digital education for immigrants, including multicultural families, is also available at the ‘Digital Learning Center’!

Korea's Ministry of Science and ICT has designated 36 ‘Digital Learning Base Centers’ across the country to provide digital education and counseling year-round to both Koreans and foreigners who have difficulty using digital technology.

In response to the rapid digital transformation of Korean society, including the development of intelligent information technology and the increase in non-face-to-face services, the Ministry of Science and ICT has been operating a digital learning center since 2020 and providing a variety of education ranging from kiosks and smartphones to how to use generative AI.

In particular, over the past four years, we have made efforts to increase the digital competency of vulnerable groups by providing digital competency training to 2.87 million people, including vulnerable groups such as the elderly and the disabled.

However, it was found that it was difficult to provide continuous education through existing digital learning centers and that some improvements were needed, such as lack of direct experience and practice of digital products.

Accordingly, the Ministry of Science and ICT has decided to improve digital learning centers by reorganizing their operation methods and educational environments starting this year.

First, we decided to designate 36 digital learning base centers across the country to constantly provide digital education necessary for real life, such as how to use kiosks, hospital and financial apps, and voice phishing prevention.

We also decided to operate a help desk where people can come at any time and receive one-on-one help on how to use their smartphones, and a digital experience zone where people can directly experience digital devices and services.

We also develop and support five types of emulators that allow you to practice kiosks and apps that are frequently used in real life, such as issuing civil applications, ordering and paying for food, and transportation services.

In particular, we plan to produce and distribute learning materials and online education content for vulnerable groups such as the disabled, multicultural families, and foreign residents.

For those who have difficulty visiting the digital learning center, we visit more than 3,000 local facilities such as welfare centers and provide specialized education for each class.
