Gyeonggi Province's family care allowance project, which provides care allowances to those who care for children, will be implemented starting in the second half of this year. Above all, it is great that multicultural families can participate without restrictions. Let's take a closer look.
*What is the Gyeonggi-type family care allowance?: Gyeonggi Province is accepting applications for the Gyeonggi-type family care allowance for the second half of 2025 from June 2nd through Gyeonggi Civil Complaints 24 (gg24.gg.go.kr). If a family with a gap in childcare has relatives within the fourth degree of kinship, including grandparents, and neighbors who provide care, the allowance is paid. This project was created to reduce the burden of childcare and recognize the value of care for those who care for children.
*Who can participate?: The Gyeonggi-type family care allowance is available to households with a median income of 150% or less (3-person household income: 7,538,030 won, 4-person household income: 9,146,660 won) and a child aged 24-36 months. However, you must reside in one of the 14 cities and counties participating in the second half of the year: Seongnam, Paju, Gwangju, Hanam, Gunpo, Osan, Yangju, Anseong, Uiwang, Pocheon, Yangpyeong, Yeoju, Dongducheon, and Gapyeong.
*How much is the allowance?: Child caregivers must perform more than 40 hours of care per month, and if there is one child in care, 300,000 won is paid per month, 450,000 won for two children, and 600,000 won for three children. Applicants must reside with their children in a participating city or county.
*What should multicultural families do?: If a multicultural family applies for care allowance, if a foreign friend takes care of the child, the friend must also live in the same township as the applicant. Documents proving this (such as a copy of the resident registration) must also be submitted. If parents or relatives from the home country come to take care of the child, documents proving the kinship (including a translated copy of the birth certificate, etc.) must also be submitted.
*Where do I apply?: Apply at Gyeonggi Civil Service 24 (gg24.gg.go.kr). The application period is from 10:00 AM on the 1st of every month to 6:00 PM on the 15th of every month, regardless of holidays or public holidays. Those who participated in the first half of the year must also apply again with the official business in the second half of the year, and once you apply, you do not have to apply again until the end of the year. If you are a multicultural family whose mother works and is worried about childcare, be sure to apply for the ‘Gyeonggi-type family care allowance’, which is only available in Gyeonggi-do! For inquiries, call 120 Gyeonggi-do Call Center (031-120).
