Post Office EMS discounts expanded to include multicultural families and foreign residents!

Gyeonggi Province and Gyeongin Regional Post Office have decided to expand the discount on international express mail (EMS) rates, which was previously limited to multicultural families, to some foreign residents and implement the service. This is really good news. Gyeonggi Province and Gyeongin Regional Post Office have been providing discounts on international express mail (EMS) rates since 2011 to help multicultural families settle down in Korea early. However, starting this year, the support target has been expanded to include some foreigners.

Additional support targets include ▲foreign students (D-2, D-4) ▲foreign workers (E-8, E-9, H-2) ▲foreign nationals (F-1, F-2, F-3, F-4, F-5) ▲job seekers (D-10) residing in Gyeonggi-do, accounting for 85% of all foreigners residing in Gyeonggi-do.

These are also provided with a 10% discount on EMS shipping fees when visiting the post office, the same as the existing multicultural family discount, and up to a 13% discount when using the online simple application. It may be a bit disappointing for foreign residents who do not receive the discount benefits, such as E-7 workers.

To receive the discount, visit a post office in your province with your alien registration card (or, if you are a foreign national, your domestic residence report card). If someone other than yourself, such as a friend, is sending the EMS, you must submit a copy of your alien registration card and the agent's ID. If you are sending a large quantity of EMS for commercial purposes, you are not eligible for the discount.

Kim Won-gyu, the director of the Gyeonggi Province Immigration and Social Affairs Bureau, said, “We have promoted this agreement so that foreign residents can maintain connections with their families and find emotional stability,” and “We will continue to discover highly tangible support policies so that foreign residents can live stably in Gyeonggi Province in the future.”

Meanwhile, last year, we supported a discount of approximately 6,600 won per case, or a total of 27 million won, for approximately 4,000 international express shipments.

In fact, most countries will have a way to send parcels at a cheaper price than the post office EMS. However, the post office EMS is superior in that there is almost no risk of loss and it is delivered safely and accurately.

Please use the post office EMS a lot, as Gyeonggi Province is providing this discount benefit specifically for foreign residents.
