Multicultural families have the opportunity to watch Gyeonggi-do dance at a 50% discount.

Gyeonggi Arts Center and Gyeonggi Dance Company will present ‘5049: Arrows in the Air’ as their first planned performance of the year at Gyeonggi Arts Center Small Theater from March 28 to 29, and at Gyeonggi Gugak Center Gugakdang from April 4 to 5.

This performance is expected to be a valuable opportunity to directly experience the artistry of Gyeonggi Dance Company.

*What is this performance about?: About 230 years ago, Korea was ruled by a country called Joseon. At that time, there was a king named Jeongjo who enjoyed archery and was good at it. However, it is said that out of 50 arrows, he hit 49 and intentionally shot one into the air. Rather than hitting all 50 arrows and showing off his skills, he wanted to show the virtue of humility to his subjects.

This performance contains the philosophy that reflects the attitude of Jeongjo, who always did his best but never lost his humility. Rather than asserting his royal authority, Jeongjo, who lowered himself and implemented policies for the people, expressed his philosophy that “all people are equal” through dance.

*Isn't it too difficult?: Rather than focusing on the plot, the audience can enjoy the work from a variety of perspectives through the images and emotions shown moment by moment. Above all, since the performance is composed entirely of dance and almost no words, multicultural families who don't speak Korean well can easily enjoy the performance.

This piece interprets Korean movements with a modern sensibility and adds humor to show the sincerity of King Jeongjo who loved his people. In particular, it will be a time to focus on the movements of the dancers, focusing on Korean images and emotions rather than narrative development.
