<Question> I am a marriage immigrant. I have been issued a new passport. In this case, do I have to report it to the Immigration Office? Or can I not? If I have to report, what documents are required?
<Answer> Foreign residents who have been issued a new passport or have renewed their passport must submit a ‘report of change of registration information’ to the competent immigration office within 15 days.
In addition to passport number, issuance date, and validity period, the subjects for which registration changes need to be reported include name, gender, date of birth and nationality.
However, if you receive a new passport, it takes time for reissuance, so you can report it ‘within 15 days after 30 days have elapsed from the date of passport reissuance.’ So, in terms of date, you can report within 45 days of the passport renewal date.
In addition, when a foreign student enrolled in elementary, middle or high school changes schools, or when a foreigner with a visiting employment (H-2) qualification first finds a job or changes company, he or she must also report it.
There are three ways to report. The most convenient way is to access Hi Korea and report it online, but this is only possible if you have already registered as a member before renewing your passport. You can also visit the Immigration Office or fax 1577-1346.
