The Korean government will resume
operation of consumption coupons in November. In November, the government
announced that it would allow the use of consumption coupons such as eating
out, lodging, tourism, sports, movies, and professional sports in conjunction
with the transition to the quarantine system for the 'step-by-step recovery of
daily life' (with Corona).
Currently, the Korean economy is only good
for exports, and both private consumption and investment are lagging behind. In
order to revive domestic demand, the government has decided to release nine
types of consumption coupons worth 230 billion won.
Coupons for dining out, performances, and
agricultural and fishery products, which could only be used online, can be used
offline, and coupons for accommodation, travel, sports, movies, exhibitions,
and professional sports, which were completely suspended from the end of last
year due to concerns about the spread of Corona, will be resumed.
For the dining out coupon, regardless of
online or offline, if you eat food over 20,000 won 3 times with your card, you
will get 10,000 won back the 4th time.
For example, if you order food twice
through the delivery app and eat out once, you will get 10,000 won back the
next time you eat out.
The physical education coupon provides a
monthly discount of 30,000 won on the use of indoor sports facilities such as
gyms.
Movie and performance coupons reduce the
ticket price by 6,000 won and 8,000 won, respectively, and if you book domestic
accommodations through an online travel agency, you get a discount of 30,000
won for purchases over 70,000 won and 20,000 won for those under 70,000 won.
However, accommodation coupons are
expected to start later than in early November because the operator must be
selected.
Along with consumption coupons, tourism
revitalization policies such as travel week will be implemented again. The
government plans to provide various benefits, including the sale of rail and
express bus discount coupons, while operating the ‘2021 Traveling Month’, and
to promote linking with events such as local events.
The government expects that the effect of consumption coupons will increase when the Korea Sale Festa, the largest shopping event in Korea, starts on November 1.
